Media Training and Research Centre (MTRC) celebrated the International Women’s Day (IWD) Event on March 08, 2019, at Margalla Hotel, Kashmir Highway, Islamabad in partnership with British High Commission Islamabad. The event celebrated International Women’s Day in line with 2019 campaign theme of #BalanceforBetter, a call-to-action for driving gender balance across the world.
Ms. Arooj, British High Commission (BHC) made her inaugural remarks. Prof. Dr Shah Jehan Sayed CEO MTRC and Mr Aoun Sahi Program Head MTRC also spoke on the occasion. Ms. Myra Imran, prominent female journalist spoke about online harassment, its repercussions and the way forward. Joanna Reid, head of DFID Pakistan made the closing remarks and distributed among the participants the certificates of the training held a day earlier .
The IWD event was preceded by the training of female journalists from remote locations in the country on multimedia journalism on March 07, 2019. Based on an idea that skills on two mediums is better than one, MTRC planned the training just ahead of the event to facilitate the transition of these female journalist from traditional to multimedia journalism. Ms. Shumaila Jafferi, BBC; Mr Haroon Ur Rashid BBC/Independent; Mr. Jamshed Rizwani, senior journalist from Multan; Mr. Waqar Malik VOA; Mr. Hassan Bilal, BBC Urdu.com; Mr Fakhar Kakakhel, Hum News led various sessions during the training.
The testimonials of the participants of the training, young female journalists were played during the IWD event on March 08 where they spoke about their experience at the training and generally their work in the field with reference to the women day.
