“Festival for Peace and Regional Convergence”- October 25, 2018-Dushanbe, Tajikistan

The third “Festival for Peace and Regional Convergence”-Young Ambassadors of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Tajikistan was held on Monday 25 October 2018 by Mediothek Afghanistan and hosted by National Newspaper Millat in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. Representatives of young ambassadors of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Tajikistan, artists and musicians, cultural icons, poets, students, ambassadors and representatives of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Germany, and Tajikistan participated in the festival.

His Excellency Mr Tariq Iqbal Soomro, the ambassador of Pakistan in Tajikistan attended the festival and appreciated the efforts of Mediothek Afghanistan, Media Training and Research Centre (MTRC) Islamabad and other partner organisations. Mr Shah jahan Sayed CEO of MTRC also spoke on the occasion while young ambassador Ms. Sanober Akram also spoke. Artists and musicians of the three countries, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Tajikistan reinforced the message of peace and connectivity of cultural values through local folk songs and music. From Pakistan, the local music group comprising Naeem Ullah Khan Tori, Ms. Bushra, and Mr. Nazar Muhammad played local music and folk songs.

The Pakistan delegation met at dinner with His Excellency Mr Tariq Iqbal Soomro, the ambassador of Pakistan in Tajikistan and the embassy staff where the delegation explained the goals of young Ambassadors program to the diplomatic staff and employees of the embassy. The Ambassador and the diplomatic staff explained ongoing cooperation of Pakistan and Tajikistan. On the second day of the festival, the participants visited the Narek plant with a 304-foot dam, one of the most important electrical power production plants in Tajikistan, and known as the highest dam in Central Asia.

The speakers at the festival emphasized the role of youth and people to people contacts in strengthening the values of peace and convergence in the region. The goal of the peace festival was to promote active regional networks among youth and civil society; to promote cultural, social, economic and social relations between the countries of the region to achieve progress and development. The first and second festivals were held in Kabul and Islamabad earlier.

This Project Young Ambassadors in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Tajikistan under which the festival of peace was held is sponsored by the Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany. The project aims to impart mediation, negotiation, and leadership skills to the youth in these countries through training workshops; to create capacity and ability in youth so that they can act as mediator and reformer in order to promote regional convergence and secure regional peace.
